Basically my computer was still having a bit of trouble with heat inside running a good 20 degrees warmer inside then outside and the cpu was 20, 30 OR even 40 degrees hotter then the rest of the inside of the computer, so I added 2 fans to move some air around in the case and exhaust the heat from the processor. This worked for a while but was not quite enough. Ok here is what my computer looked like inside before I did anything
The blue is cool air and the red is hot as you can see my computer gathered a lot of hot air in the top. Ok here is what it looked like after some upgrades
New video card new fan and a Zelman cooler for the cpu The Zelman cooler helped a lot but I was still having trouble with overheating. So I drilled a bunch of holes in circles to add 2 more fans to my computer. And a few days later I started trying to tame the cables.
Here you can see the blowhole fan in the top and all the power cables snap tied out of the way.
I started to round the ide cables to allow air to move around them better
Done, I only rounded the longest part because rounding the short part would have been to much of a pain in the butt with these cables and couldn't be done with the cdrom cable anyway, I wouldn't be able to hock up both cd drives if I did anyway
Now the ide cables don't block much air at all the ram can get cooled there is a big open space in the middle of the case for air to flow throw much better. The wire you see laying on the floor is for the side intake fan.
I am too poor to buy a fan grill so I made one. So far my cpu has been only a bit more then 20 degrees warmer then the inside of the case, and the case temp has not been over 43 and the room was over 30, not bad fore air cooling with mostly old fans and a home made fan controller. part 2 Ok I am still not completely happy with the temp in the box. I heard that top blowhole fans can create vortexes in the case, so I made something out of cardboard to prevent the vortex............................. I hope.
I taped it to the bottom of the blow hole fan on the top of the case. Next I installed a baffle to control where the rear exhaust fan can get air from.
It forces the fan to draw air from beside the video card and under the cpu cooler, instead of sucking off the cool air and leaving the hot air in the case. You can see the devortexer in the top here too. I also rounded the rest of the ide cables and the floppy cable, it turns out that it is easer to hook up the cdroms with the cables rounded, who knew???? I didn't get a good picture of my closed up computer. Cool looking isn't it LOL. Ok I did some more mods, I put back the air duct that came with the case in the hopes that it would help with cpu temp, so far not to bad. My room is brutal, the hole apartment, and that is with every fan running.
I pulled out that peace of cardboard at the back because it is not needed.
The duct mounted back in the case. |
